Low Yield Earth-Penetrating Weapons

Princeton University physicist Robert Nelson discusses how "mini-nukes" could be used to destroy hardened bunkers and underground targets. Mini-nuke advocates, mostly coming from the nuclear weapons labs, argue that low-yield nuclear weapons should be designed to destroy even deeper targets. Dr. Nelson has performed research on the penetrating ability of robust nuclear earth penetrators (RNEP's) and explores how deep these weapons must go for the nuclear blast to be fully contained.
