Upcoming Projects 

Building off a successful track record completing demonstration projects to showcase and evaluate advanced building systems, FAS will construct several more demonstration houses in the upcoming year.

4 HABITAT HOMES...

 In 2008, FAS will partner with Habitat for Humanity International to construct a demonstration village. Four homes will be built, identical in design, but each constructed with a different building system. One home will be built from structural insulated panels (SIPs) with cement fiber board facings, while the other three will be built from more traditional building systems: OSB (oriented strand board) SIPs, steel-stud framing, and ICF (Insulated Concrete Form). The four homes will be identical in size, shape, orientation, etc., allowing for a quantified, comparative analysis to demonstrate the cost, construction time, and energy use of each building system.

Both FAS and Habitat believe that this comparative project will help showcase the advantages of CSIP technology and will provide a great opportunity to research alternative construction methods (complete with energy and performance ratings).

EMERGENCY HOUSING DEMONSTRATION...

FAS will also continue its relationship with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to build an modular emergency housing unit with CSIP panels. FAS worked with MEMA as an advisor for their Alternative Housing Pilot Program proposal, and will continue to help improve the state's readiness in emergency situations with more energy efficient, modular housing options. The project will occur in 2008.
